A robot called ADAMMS-UV is decluttering high risk areas for janitors and cleaners. There are several disinfecting robots on the market. However, many of them can not move objects aside to ensure thorough cleaning. ADAMMS-UV is creating safer environments for janitors to perform their work.
People remotely control Agile Dexterous Autonomous Mobile Manipulation System-UV (ADAMMS-UV). It uses a UV light wand to disinfect and a gripper to open doors and handle objects to sanitize hard-to-reach spaces carefully. The controller uses the robot's cameras to navigate while it creates a 3D model of the area from gathered data.
"We are building a robotic platform to improve human productivity, reduce risk to workers, and ensure that the disinfection process is thorough," says Satyandra K. Gupta.
Robots like this will help to promote safer cleaning practices in areas that might hold surfaces with coronavirus. Janitors could spend less time in these risky areas.
