Robots Are Keeping Seniors Connected During The Pandemic

Senior Care Resident With A Robot
Robots in Belgium are helping older adults connect to the outside world through video calls. Many places have banned people from visiting care homes. Having this form of interaction will help combat loneliness and feels of isolation.

James can self navigate into various rooms, connecting seniors to their families and loved ones through apps like Facebook Messenger. About 60 of the robots are operating at various care facilities.

“We said, in the coming weeks we will not be able to sell, the stock is just going to sit here. Instead of letting the stock sit here, why not put it to use in a good way?” Zorabots co-CEO Tommy Deblieck told Reuters.

Social distancing has become a difficult and, at times, scary part of life for vulnerable communities such as the elderly population. Robots like these give people a way to stay present with those closest to them.
