Scientist Are Creating Astronaut Gloves That Control Drones In Space

Astronaut glove that controls drones
Scientists are creating a prototype of a glove astronauts can use to pilot drones in space. For years, making space gloves comfortable, functional, and flexible enough has been a challenge. This new glove design has all these qualities, and also gives astronauts fewer restrictions to control their equipment and surroundings.

The control panel sits on the back of the glove. This allows astronauts to guide drones, measure distance with integrated laser light, and check their tank's oxygen levels. Safely controlling drones also helps them to avoid danger during extravehicular activity while exploring various worlds.

It is designed to operate and control "a martian drone or lunar rover with gestures alone," according to a press release.

Space travel is an important and complicated journey. The ability for astronauts to operate drones and equipment with ease will take space exploration to new levels to find more information about the universe.
