For the first time in the USA, a robot named LightStrike is using UV lights to destroy pathogens in Texas hotel rooms. There is fear within the country of catching the coronavirus. UV lights can protect hotel workers and people in quarantine during this time.
The robot's UV lights take only two minutes to kill bacteria and viruses on a microscopic level. It can kill SARS and MERS, along with other strains of the coronavirus. While older technology used mercury bulbs, this UV light is a much more powerful defense.
"LightStrike pulsed xenon lamps produce a flash of intense germicidal light across the entire disinfecting spectrum delivered in millisecond pulses," says Melinda Hart, a spokesperson for Xenex Disinfection Services. Many people will need to self-quarantine in hotels in the coming days. Robots can provide safety by preventing the spread of the virus within the hotel and throughout the country.
