Hummingbird Drone Spies On A Swarm Of Butterflies

5/7/2020

A drone disguised as a hummingbird has taken footage of a rare sight. Getting close to 500 million butterflies without causing harm or surprise is exceptionally challenging. However, this tiny drone allows the public to see sights that would never be viewable before.

The creators chose a hummingbird because it is natural for them to search for nectar in the same location as butterflies. The drone has propellors with a mesh covering to protect it along with the butterflies. Butterflies can even land on the wings of the drone without any disturbance.

Once temperatures reach 50 degrees Fahrenheit the drone captures the millions of butterflies coming to life in a whirlwind of movement and flight.

Drones have captured footage of many incredible moments. Miniature drones like these will allow the public to have an inside look at the beautiful moments in nature that would typically be dangerous or inaccessible.
