A robotic nurse is helping taking care of patients in Italy. Italy currently has the highest rate of death tolls in the world, resulting from coronavirus. The robot named Tommy is helping to combat the spread of the virus seizing more Italian doctors and medical personnel.
Patients can use the touchscreen on Tommy to record messages and send them to doctors. He also monitors medical equipment and can relay these results to medical staff. This drastically reduces the number of physical interactions doctors and nurses have with patients.
"Using my abilities, medical staff can be in touch with the patients without direct contact," explained Tommy, the robot. Robotics is giving medical workers an alternative way to monitor patients and provide quality care while maintaining the social distancing practices that save lives in hospital settings.
